Te Puru School is a small country school located on a beautiful beach on the Thames Coast. We cater for children in years 0-8 and offer a well equipped Information Station (Library), a very new superb fully equipped hall for assemblies, productions and indoor sports and a Marine Centre full of kayaks for summer sport. Our school is a very unique place with a caring, friendly and nurturing culture where we have high expectations for learning and behaviour. We work together to provide a stimulating learning environment in which the team of highly-trained staff provide quality teaching in well-resourced buildings to address the special needs of our students in partnership with parents, the Board of Trustees, and the community.

School Development Goal 2011

“To continue to develop and modify our reporting process to ensure clear and concise information is given to key stakeholders in the school – Children, Parents/Whanau, Teaching Team and BOT.
Reporting to Parents/Whanau will be in plain language, twice a year, and will show children’s achievement against National Standards.
Te Puru Teaching Team, February 2011.

Student Targets 2011

“To have 90% of our students at or above the National standard in Reading, Writing and Mathematics by the end of 2011”.

Notes from Jayne:
I have just come back from Room Totara’s camp and I am happy to report that all the children are doing fabulously and having so much fun. I was treated to a walk around their bush huts and found out which way to put my branch in the earth, should I ever need to build my own waterproof bivouac. It was lovely to see such confidence emerging in our young people, Ashley and Pete have done a great job. It was the children’s first camp and it was Ashley’s first camp, but to be honest you would never know it, they all look like seasoned campers to me. That’s when you know you have been successful.

Speaking of successful lets talk ERO:

The initial feedback was very positive, please do come and look at the feedback sheets on the wall in the staffroom. They point out our areas of success and feedback areas that we need to work on. They found us to have a welcoming and inclusive culture and saw that the use of our virtues was effective in promoting teaching and learning in school. They saw that the Board and the Community were very supportive. They saw very high levels of student engagement in learning. Having Ann and Paul here was a very positive experience and they have given us excellent feedback on how to make our great school outstanding. I look forward to their full report.
Let’s go Te Puru!

Don’t forget our Kiwi Camp Out on Saturday on the field. I will be there from 4pm. Bring your tent and your sausages! The hall toilets will be open. It will be a fun evening and hopefully we can have a big game of rounders, I might even go fishing! Do note though that this is not a supervised event by the school and parents are responsible for their own children. Happy camping!

Let’s hope the weather is glorious for the weekend, I feel my book and my hammock calling me!
Love Jayne
